What is that we can learn about great instruction from the world of Education? I'd say a great deal. A great coach of children and youth is one who has learned how to bring out effective change.
A reasonable goal when setting out into a new season of teaching young skiers to enjoy and become more technically proficient performers of skill is that a year of growth will take place. That is what we hope anyway - each year, children become more skilled than they were the previous year, and by the end of the year, they have advanced a full year in skill and ability. By my experience, most youth coaches aim to do their best but fall short of expert performance.
Yesterday I had the chance to attend a presentation by Simon Breakspear. If you're in the education world in Canada or Australia, you'll know Breakspear.
